Do you ever think to yourself, "if only I could be a morning person" or "if only I could be as motivated as.." Here's the truth that I think a lot of people need to hear.. NO ONE JUST IS ANYTHING. No one just is a morning person and no one just is more motivated than other people. We all have to start somewhere and work towards what we want to be and how we want to interact with our experiences in life. In this blog post, I want to give you 3 mindset shifts that will change your ability to do the things in life that you want to do, but maybe don't think you're made to do it. Everyone is made to do anything they set their mind to. No one just is anything.
Here is your Ultimate Mindset Hack:
#1. Accept that it's possible!
What is it that you wish you could be, but don't think is possible? A morning person? -- more organized? -- a healthier eater? -- an entrepreneur? -- a leader? No matter how big of a goal you think it is, I want you to write down, on a sheet of paper, the following..
I want to be (fill in the blank).
I can be (fill in the blank).
I will be (fill in the blank) by taking these steps:
This is the start of your game plan to reaching that goal! It's important that we separate what you want from what you actually can do and then set the steps that will get you there. Those people who you think are better than you because they're already reaching that goal are not better, they're just more experienced. They all started somewhere, so it's time for you to start right now! Those people believed they were capable, no matter how long or hard that road looks to get there. There is no point in reading anymore if you aren't ready to accept that it's possible.
#2. Build a plan and work it!
This post is not about creating a game plan, however knowing how to write down a step by step process of realistic and timely tasks to get to your end result is extremely necessary. I've linked a few podcast episodes here to give you some tips and tricks on goal setting. These episode have a supplemental workbook that you can download straight off my website, once you subscribe:
Once you build your game plan, it's time to WORK IT! This means, not only putting those steps into action, but doing every single one with PASSION. Even those small tasks that don't seem as important, have to be done with your whole heart to get to where you want to be. For example, if you want to be a teacher, it's not just about putting your all into learning new teaching techniques but also learning the material you will be teaching. Sometimes we like to quickly move through the small stuff to get to the big things, but the small stuff is often the foundation that gives us the tools we need to move to the big stuff successfully. Make every piece of your game plan IMPORTANT to YOU!
#3. As you start seeing progress, remember your purpose..
I want you to ask yourselves these questions:
-Why do I want to be (fill in the blank).
-Who does it benefit?
Sometimes when we start seeing progress, we forget our purpose, which can lead us down the wrong path and keep us from reaching our full potential. For example, if you want to be an entrepreneur and you land your first 10 customers, you may begin to think of ways to get MORE out there for MORE potential customers and sacrifice quality for quantity. This is the moment we need to ask those questions above. Maybe you want to sell high quality recipie books for home cooks. That's who you are trying to benefit and how you want to benefit them. Those 10 customers valued your mission and purchased those books. If we now decide to lower the quality to obtain more customers, we lost that value. This goes for anything we want to be. It's easy to get lazy once we reach our goal and slowly lose it, or forget why we wanted to do it in the first place. It is our purpose that makes it all happen in the end!
